"It's Not Politics People" not only represents the name of John Guymon's new record but also his perspective. From God and family to surviving this life, his 12 string acoustic sound captivates listeners as he portrays stories of strife, faith and the search for moral balance.
Growing up in the small town of Whitefish, Montana Guymon felt rejected and misunderstood. Leaving home at the age of 15 in search of self-worth and independence from his past, he enrolled in Job Corp and saved his earnings to purchase his first guitar. When a friend and mentor told him that true satisfaction could only come from the soul, his guitar and songs quickly became an expression of his challenges.
As John's talent evolved, he traded in his old guitar for a 12 string, hit the road trucking and from the sleeper of his semi the music began to flow. Influenced by Neil Young, Bob Dylan and other great controversial story tellers, Guymon's unique way of looking at life began to take shape in his music. By observing others and realizing how things could be, he developed his own style of playing that delivers a message and provides insight into the extreme division of our country.
After playing open mic and jam nights around the Flathead Valley, John Guymon released the single "Mamas" in 1999 but a work related injury left him disabled shortly thereafter and temporarily put his music career on hold. In spite of his disability, however, he continued to write and later formed the John Guymon Band which played together for several years and placed 14th in 2009 on "Make A Star", a national Web-TV talent show. With his unfailing faith and clear vision, John refused to accept his illnesses and eventually a new diagnosis brought renewed hope and health. Aware of his prior condition, McManus Transport, Inc believed in him enough to give him a chance and now, over four years later, Guymon continues to work for them delivering hot road oil all across Montana.
In January, 2012 Guymon signed a recording contract with Tate Music Group and traveled to Mustang, Oklahoma in May to produce his first record. With the release of "It's Not Politics People", John finally has the opportunity to share his message and to create awareness of the fight for control and the politicizing of the rights provided us by the Constitution and the Ten Commandments.
From coast to coast, with the world as his inspiration, John Guymon's songs serve as his gift to us for the parts we've all played.
